The drawing architect - for centuries, this term was just as tautological as the "baking baker". Nevertheless, the acquisition of drawing skills is by no means a minor field of study for architects. Design methodology, also referred to as methodology of space and the representation of the human body, plays a critical role in the current field of architectural activity. This book explores options for illustration and contemporary practice with architectural presentation. It deals with the following topics.

Despite the fact that he shaped Venice and it's contemporary form, Eugenio Miozzi remains a little-known figure. Yet both locals and visitors experience his legacy every day, in particular when they cross his bridges: from the Ponte della Libertà, to the Ponte dell'Accademia; from the various bridges over the Rio Nuovo, to the exemplary Ponte degli Scalzi. Miozzi, chief engineer of the Commune of Venice from 1931 to 1954, carried out a large number of works and projects, including a vast modernist parking garage and the Casino on the Lido. The prolific engineer-architect played a role in the development of the Teatro La Fenice, made plans for the restoration of the city and the extension of the Tronchetto, and designed a translagoon road and a motorway from Venice to Munich. These projects and the others presented in this illustrated volume represent Miozzi's tireless efforts to guarantee the city's survival by combining it's centuries-old traditions with a spirit of innovation.

In the 1920s, an unprecedented program of architectural and cultural renewal was established in the German city of Frankfurt am Main. This scheme became inscribed in cultural history under the name "The New Frankfurt". Under the city's lord mayor, Ludwig Landmann, and the head of the municipal planning and building control office, Ernst May, modernity as a way of life took shape there: As part of the housing and urban development initiative decided in 1925, more than 10,000 new residential units were planned. The Building Ministry's architects, recruited from home and abroad, created pioneering work in many areas. Examples include the typification of family-oriented flats, plans for affordable apartments for those on low incomes, the first standard kitchen, the industrial prefabrication of building shells, the construction of schools designed around children's needs, and integrated urban and green planning. In this book, four essays delve into the cultural background of the scheme and provide illuminating insights into the context of the work of it's many actors. Richly illustrated short texts highlight the most important topics, settlements, and buildings, and provide an overview of the New Frankfurt phenomenon. Each featured object includes the address and information on public transport links, inviting readers on a tour of the New Frankfurt.

For many, the idea of Space Architecture as a discipline lies in the domain of science fiction, where everything is possible simply because it happens "very far in the future". Is Space Architecture a fiction or reality? This book explores if and how architectural principles and strategies need to be transformed when applied to the extreme conditions of outer space. It presents concepts developed by great minds in the fields of space exploration and science-fiction, ones which can inspire new ways into the future. The book also presents the philosophy of Space Architecture, arguing for example that the design of space habitats needs to be human-centred while defining ways for humans to co-exist in new environments. Dessau may be a mere speck on the map, but to this day the city of Bauhaus still occupies the most important place in the development of the New Building - otherwise known as the Neues Bauen - movement. Alongside the Modernist architecture, there is another World Cultural Heritage site which draws in visitors from all over the world to the region, namely the Garden Kingdom of Dessau Worlitz (Gartenreich Dessau-Worlitz). Wroclaw is one of the oldest cities in Poland with a long and turbulent history that is manifest on every corner. Throughout the ages, the city has been passed from hand to hand in many different circumstances. The city has belonged to the Poles, the Czechs, the Hungarians and the Germans. Although almost seventy percent of its urban fabric was destroyed in the Second World War, Wroclaw managed to rise from the ruins and now boasts many an architectural monument. The city currently features nearly eight thousand tenements - one of the largest complexes of this type found in Poland and, furthermore, in Europe. The oldest tenements originated in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and are surrounded by Baroque, Classicist, Art Nouveau and modernist architecture.
