Hilma af Klint is now regarded as one of the Abstract Art pioneers. She painted more than 1200 works before her death in 1944, but never showed them publicly outside her anthropological and occult circles. After twenty years of artistry she developed a distinct abstract style and devoted the rest of her life to a grand painterly mission. The complex oeuvre of the American artist Cy Twombly (1928-2011) comprises a time period of around six decades, during which it never lost any of it's expressive power. Twombly was one of the most productive artists in the history of more recent art. The book focuses to a degree never before seen on his major cycles: Nine Discourses on Commodus (1963), Fifty Days at Iliam (1978), and Coronation of Sesostris (2000).
